Mickey “Scraps” Smalls is a Frankenstein Monster created for a magic mafia boss as a bodyguard. While free from that life now, he’s navigating the mental and physical health issues of his former life and trying to be a better person. The purpose of this character is to share information about mental health and coping tools, while also providing an over-the-top scenario in which to frame it. An approachable monster who puts the needs of others before his own and just wants you to feel better today.
Mickey’s look is intentionally anime-inspired. To properly mix the horror elements with the cute edge that he needs, the scars on his face are cartoonish and the patches brightly colored. The makeup is created entirely with standard eyeshadow pallets, eyeliner, and a red lip liner. Masc makeup is applied under the SFX, including blocking out the lips with foundation and contouring facial features. Overdrawing the mouth with black eyeliner, combined with smiling until my face hurts, gives Mickey his signature exaggerated features.
The hoodie, dubbed Mega Hoodie, is two razor-cut patchwork hoodies that I took apart and stitched back together, giving it twice as long arms and an extended hemline with extra pockets. It is deceptively heavy, and I love it.
