Apocalypse Blare

Original character, alternate reality version
Genre: Post-apocalyptic zombie action with an edge of parody

Sometimes cosplays turn out more complicated than we anticipate. Blare’s cosplay is supposed to be a cyborg space alien. I keep not finishing that version. So I put together an alternate reality version to join some friends on TikTok in an apocalypse tag instead.

Blare, pronouns it/its, is a uniquely challenging character because there are a lot of layers to get in there, both in makeup and costume and on the acting front. It is a careful balance of glamour and horror, ugly and pretty, vanity and the truth beneath it all. Everything about it is smiles and acting like your BFF, and you’ll never know the difference between it being genuine or playing you.

Femme contour makeup is the base, purposely exaggerated. A streak of red blush across the eyes pulls in the glam war paint, and a downward turning cat’s eye eyeliner ties it in. The eyebrows are glued down so that the scar makeup can go over them. The scar itself is white face paint accented with red lipliner, with a whiteout contact lens.

The baseball bat is customized, but what’s written on it is not for mixed company, there’s an f-bomb on there. The rest of the outfit features touches like a distressed crop jean jacket, bedazzled skull pendant, a trans pride #illGoWithYou lanyard, an I Need Space pin as a joke about it originally being a space alien, and a Trash Baby possum patch (not shown) for inside joke reasons.

Total expected application time of hair, makeup, and costume: Uncalculated. I experimented with gluing my eyebrows down and making scars for a while while on a Zoom call with my brothers and ended up making the whole makeup look by the end, in spite of not expecting to get into cosplay and shoot videos that night.

Where to find more Apocalypse Blare content:
– Public videos on my TikTok and Instagram
– This was a one-shot character, repeat cosplay or further content is not currently expected, but the future cyborg version will reuse some of the elements. Stay tuned.
